Artist Description of Work:
The painting explores how memory settles beneath the skin, how abandonment and oblivion reshapes identity seen from the perspective of a Cuban American who observes how his memory of his hometown is transformed, not by progress but decay, and how traces of beauty can survive even in the ruins. The canvas depicts a woman kneeling, facing backwards from the viewer, and a landscape in ruins intersects her core, in a grey background, similar to a cloudy day.
