Where to Buy Original Art in Miami
Share
Miami has a reputation for art that lives in one dazzling week each December. The fairs, the crowds, the energy. That week is real and genuinely wonderful. It's also the smallest part of a much bigger story. Miami is an art city all year long, and you can collect here, not just look.
So if you want to start collecting original work in this city, here's where to do it. You'll find original art across Miami's gallery neighborhoods, from Wynwood to Little Haiti to Allapattah, at open studios and monthly art walks, and directly from the artists who make this city's scene so alive. The thing to look for is galleries showing original, one-of-a-kind work by living artists.
I'm an artist and a gallerist here in Coconut Grove, so consider this your insider's map.
Miami is an art city all year
Art Week is a thrilling few days, and worth experiencing at least once. The lovely secret is that the galleries, studios, and artists who fill this city are here every other week of the year too, doors open and happy to talk. Some of the best collecting happens in the calmer months, when you can take your time and really look.
So you don't have to wait for December. The art is here now.
Where the original art is
Miami's galleries cluster in a handful of neighborhoods, each with its own character:
- Wynwood. Known the world over for its murals and street art, with galleries threaded between the walls.
- Little Haiti and Little River. Some of the most exciting, fast-rising galleries and studios in the city, full of emerging talent.
- Allapattah. Warehouse spaces and serious collections have moved in, making it one of the city's most watched art districts.
- The Design District. Polished and elevated, where art sits alongside design and architecture.
Beyond the gallery walls, keep an eye out for open studios and monthly art walks, where you meet the maker, see the work in progress, and often have the warmest conversations of your whole search.
And then there's the Grove
Coconut Grove has always had a creative soul. It's one of Miami's oldest neighborhoods, with a bohemian, artistic history woven right through it. What it doesn't have yet is a row of galleries, and that is exactly what drew me here.
ARRAE is helping write the Grove's next chapter as a place to find original art. We are early, and that is the point. Being part of building something, of giving Miami's best artists a home in a neighborhood with this much character, is a privilege. If you want to watch an art community take shape from the very beginning, the Grove is the place to keep your eye on. And I would genuinely love your company while we build it.
What to look for in a gallery
As you explore, look for galleries that:
- Show original, one-of-a-kind work by living artists.
- Are transparent about what you're buying: the artist, the medium, the price. If the difference between an original and a reproduction feels fuzzy, this guide sorts it out.
- Are curated by a real point of view, a person with an eye you come to trust.
A gallery like that is one worth building a relationship with.
Why collecting Miami artists is its own reward
Here's what I'll say with full confidence. Miami has some of the most talented artists working anywhere, across every medium, figurative oil painters, fiber artists, ceramicists, and more. Collecting them means getting in early on work that stands with the best, by people whose careers are climbing right now, in your own city.
A collection of Miami originals is a collection with a story. It says you paid attention, you supported the artists shaping the culture here, and you own pieces no one else in the world has. That value is real, and it tends to hold and grow precisely because it was chosen with care.
How to actually buy, not just browse
The thing that turns a looker into a collector is simple. Walk in, and talk to the gallerist. Galleries are friendlier than they can look from the sidewalk, and we genuinely want to help you find the piece that's yours. We will walk you through all of it: the artist, the work, the price, the care. If you're not sure where to begin, here's how to start a collection from the very first step.
And if you'd like a guide through the whole thing, that is exactly what I do. Art Advisory is for anyone who wants help finding and choosing the right work, at any experience level.
