Artist Description of Work:
Pretty Trashy revisits the alternative and grunge culture of the 1990s, an era that shaped the artist’s early understanding of love, beauty, femininity, and self-expression. Its visual language is built upon contradiction: tenderness alongside cynicism, glamour against decay, and romantic longing beneath a posture of indifference. Fragments of the word “trash” surface through raw gauze, torn imagery, gestural paint, and glittering hearts. Neither entirely concealed nor fully revealed, they become part of a new visual order. The work considers how the aesthetics we inherit become emotional languages, and how, by returning to them, we can transform the fragments that formed us.
