Artist Description of Work:
This piece is about a woman's ability to look inward, reflect, and contemplate "am I confined to my past or am I ever-evolving?" Upon first glance, one might assume this is an image of confinement or control; something tightly woven appears around a woman's neck and covering her eyes. The woven elements are representative of the legacies one carries within - traditions, beliefs, and values that have been permanently engraved into DNA. While these could be restrictive or even futile, they could also be celebrated proudly. The beautiful thing about reaching a point of introspection is that everything becomes a choice. One can choose to continue the woven pattern or to set the strings loose.
