Artist Description of Work:
This painting explores the cultural transformation of symbols, caused by immigration. By depicting female hands holding a rooster touching a man's forehead, "El Expiatorio" addresses the religious symbol of the rooster as vehicle for atoning one's sins. On the other hand, the drawings in silverpoint of the roosters of "Calle Ocho" in Miami reveal a new symbolic meaning of pride and resilience of the Cuban immigrant.
