Artist Description of Work:
The recurring themes and symbolism found in most of del Rivero's works can be found in this one as well. Patterns and repetition are dominant, as you can see in the background, the woman’s hair, her clothes - which is thick and warm like an embrace, but also shields her like armor. The contrast between the tight-knit weaving and the loose, dangling fabric shielding her eyes is a play on control and letting go, or repeating patterns we carry and setting them loose when they no longer serve us. The woman’s body language further emphasizes this notion, as she appears to be taking a breath and lifting her head. It may be left to the viewer’s interpretation whether this feeling is hope, relief, despair, pleasure, anguish, or a combination of these emotions.
