The Veil

Artist Description of Work:
The Veil is a reflection on grief and memory, specifically, the experience of having lost someone who has been gone for so long that memories of them begin to fade. I used the same person in the same pose, repeating it across the page to represent how one person I've lost, once vivid, becomes fragmented over time.
Layer by layer, I built the image with charcoal, each dissolving into the next. After about three full layers, I began to highlight the areas where lines intersected—where memories overlapped with one another. The resulting image is not a direct portrait, but rather an abstracted landscape of remembrance; the figure becomes a ghost of itself. In this process, I wanted to explore how grief transforms our relationship to memory, not with a sudden disappearance, but through the slow erosion of clarity. The image is still there, somewhere beneath the surface, but it's no longer whole.
Comes framed.
