Artist Description of Work:
“Samba in the Park” was inspired by performers on a rooftop park in Philadelphia after the pandemic lockdown due to COVID-19 was lifted. The imagery reflects the exhilarating, joyful and infectious mood. The image created is part of my evolving performer series, deviating from a static imagery to one depicting motion on a 2-D surface. It is reminiscent of Muybridge’s 1878 serial photographs showing motion in the early stages of motion photography. It was made with fifteen photos and then four screens to produce all the colors for the hand-pulled silkscreen.
