Artist Description of Work:
In Don’t let me go, Carlos Urribarrí presents a hauntingly tender exploration of human fragility and connection. Two hands—one youthful, the other worn—extend toward one another across a vast, blue void, linked only by a fragile red thread tied to their fingertips. The thread, evocative of blood or fate, vibrates with tension, suggesting both attachment and the imminent threat of rupture.
The composition evokes themes of dependency, memory, and loss. The older hand, gnarled and bruised, reaches upward with urgency, while the younger one appears poised between compassion and detachment. The background, an ethereal gradient of blues, adds weightless silence to the emotional pull between both figures.
This piece embodies Urribarrí’s painterly approach—intimate, restrained, and emotionally charged. His background as a musician informs the work’s rhythm and pacing, making the silence between forms as meaningful as the forms themselves.
