Artist Description of Work:
“Candle Light-Improvisation” was inspired by musician/actor Dave Ross’ vivacious performance of the lead character in the Blues in my Soul: The Legacy of Lonnie Johnson” at Passage theater in Trenton. Here I’m creating movement on a two-dimensional surface. It is the evolution of my performer series from static performances to my interpretation of motion photography. For this process I’m combining several photos of the suspended movements of my subject(s). This is reminiscent of Muybridge’s 1878 serial photographs showing motion in the early stages of motion photography. A digital collage was created from nine photos, then five screens were made to produce all the colors for the hand-pulled silkscreen.
