Coffee Conversations with Creators: Marbling on Paper with Chee Bravo

Coffee Conversations with Creators: Marbling on Paper with Chee Bravo

Saturday, October 25

Coffee Conversations welcomes artist Chee Bravo, who will be leading an engaging paper marbling workshop at ARRAE Gallery.

Marbling on paper is an ancient art form that transforms water into a canvas. Using pigments floated on a liquid surface, participants gently manipulate colors into swirling patterns before transferring them onto paper. Each print is one-of-a-kind — a blend of spontaneity and control that captures the rhythm of movement and the flow of color.

Chee Bravo brings her own distinct approach to this traditional process, encouraging participants to explore color, pattern, and the meditative nature of the technique. No prior experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to play.

Join us for a morning of creativity and connection as we sip coffee, learn from Chee’s process, and create our own marbled works to take home.

Chee Bravo is a Trinidad and Tobago artist whose printmaking and installations merge digital collage with hand-printed silkscreen, creating vibrant works rooted in cultural expression. She began photographing New York subway performers and expanded to document street artists in Paris, Barcelona and Havana. She uses photography and Photoshop to craft digital compositions, then translates them into vibrant silkscreen prints celebrating movement. She received a 2022 New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship and a Betty Laird Award. She continues developing immersive installations in her Miami studio.
