Collection: Jane O'Hara
Jane O’Hara is a painter and curator whose work uses surrealism to explore the disparate experiences of animals in society. Born in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1955, she splits her time between West Palm Beach, Florida and Providence, Rhode Island, balancing her studio practice with curatorial projects.
Her paintings create narrative scenes that reveal the duality between animals raised in captivity and the human traits projected onto pampered pets. She is the curator of the Beasts of Burden group exhibition and author of its accompanying book, and her 51 painting series Animals Across America, State of the Union debuted at the New Bedford Art Museum and now travels as an exhibition.
O’Hara has received the Peace Abbey’s Courage of Conscience Award and a Culture and Animals Foundation Grant, and her work is represented by The William Scott Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts, offering collectors a thoughtful lens on the ethics of human animal relationships.
